chat-on-steroids
Chat On Steroids (CoS) is an independent, MIT-licensed beta desktop app for Windows, macOS 13+ and Linux. It connects ChatGPT to local tools over MCP so the model can read and edit files, run tests, keep terminals open and use your desktop, while you watch the tool results arrive. It works through your ChatGPT conversation rather than invoking Codex directly, and the README notes ChatGPT Work and Codex share usage limits.
For larger work, independent jobs can be split across workers that keep their context. Goal follows unfinished work, Loop keeps working within your brief, and Compact & Resume carries the session and worker history into a fresh chat. You can send corrections while work runs. Setup walks through seven steps: loading an unpacked browser extension in Chrome, Edge or Brave, choosing a shared folder and access level, creating a tunnel and a restricted OpenAI API key, and adding a custom MCP server in ChatGPT.
The README carries a detailed responsible-use notice. The browser extension observes and automates the ChatGPT web UI and records conversation content locally, which is not a public ChatGPT automation API, and the project says it cannot guarantee protection from account warnings or suspension. Builds are unsigned, so packages should be checked against release checksums.
