mcp-language-server runs a language server (LSP) and exposes it to MCP clients, so an AI assistant can navigate a codebase with semantic tools instead of text search. The README names get definition, references, rename and diagnostics as examples. As it puts it, it is an MCP server that wraps a language server, not a language server for MCP.

Setup has four steps: install Go, install the server with `go install github.com/isaacphi/mcp-language-server@latest`, install a language server for your language, and point your MCP client at it with `--workspace` and `--lsp` arguments. The README gives configurations for gopls, rust-analyzer, pyright, typescript-language-server and clangd, and other language servers can be used too.

It is useful when an assistant keeps guessing at symbol locations or misses references across files. Each workspace needs its own server entry. Our data shows the last push on 2026-03-01.

This write-up is based on the project's README and public repository data. We have not hand-tested the tool. Data as of 2026-10-23.
