Best MCP Servers for Work Apps: Jira, Slack, Google Workspace, Notion
Connecting an assistant to the apps your team already uses is one of the most common MCP use cases: search Jira tickets, summarise a Slack thread, draft an email, update a spreadsheet. For most of these apps there is both an official server and one or more community servers.
Official servers tend to be better supported and easier to authorise, while community servers often expose more tools or work with self-hosted editions. This list shows both side by side.

How to choose
- Prefer the official server when it exists and fits; check its hosting model, since some are cloud-hosted and need an account-level approval.
- Check whether you use a cloud or self-hosted edition. For example, some Atlassian servers cover both Cloud and Server/Data Center.
- Scope credentials tightly. A Slack or Google Workspace token can read a lot of private data, so grant only the scopes and folders you need.
- Write tools can send messages and edit documents. Start with read-only access and add write tools deliberately.
- Check maintenance. One official Notion repository says the local server may be sunset in favour of Notion's remote MCP.
FAQ
Should I use the official or the community server?
Start with the official one if it covers what you need, because it is usually easier to authorise and better supported. Choose a community server when you need more tools, a self-hosted edition, or features the official one lacks.
Is it safe to give an assistant access to Slack or Gmail?
It can be, with care. Use the narrowest scopes, prefer read-only first, and remember that message and document contents are sent to the model provider. Review any action that sends messages or edits documents.
Can one MCP server cover all my work apps?
Not usually. Each app has its own server. To manage several together, put them behind an MCP gateway or aggregator so your assistant connects to one endpoint.
How we compiled this list
Tools are chosen by hand from the projects in our index, favouring those we have reviewed in depth. Stars, licence, last-push date and install command come from each repository and are refreshed with the site data. We read each project's README and docs; we have not run every tool ourselves, so test before you depend on one.
