Refact is an AI software development agent that runs inside VS Code and JetBrains. The README claims it is the number one open-source agent on SWE-bench Verified; that is the project's own claim, which we have not checked. It says the agent handles engineering tasks end to end and connects to GitHub, GitLab, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Pdb, Docker and shell commands.

Beyond the agent, the README lists context-aware auto-completion powered by Qwen2.5-Coder-1.5B with RAG, an in-IDE chat, and support for 25+ languages. Models can be GPT-5, Claude 4.5, Gemini 3.0, DeepSeek and others, and you can bring your own key for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Qwen and more. Task types include generating, refactoring, explaining and debugging code, writing unit tests, code review, documentation and docstrings.

There is a self-hosted option for keeping everything on your own infrastructure. The README gives `pip install .` (with extra build flags for CUDA 8.0+ GPUs with flash-attention v2), a pre-built Docker image, and plugin setup by pointing the VS Code or JetBrains plugin at a custom inference URL such as `http://127.0.0.1:8008`. The README also advertises tailored enterprise deployments. Last push was 2026-05-30. This review is based on the README and repository data; we have not run it ourselves.
