mcp-proxy
mcp-proxy switches between MCP server transports and has two modes. In the first, it runs as a stdio server that forwards to a remote SSE or streamable HTTP server, so clients such as Claude Desktop that expect stdio can use a remote server; you pass the server's SSE URL, and `--transport=streamablehttp` if it uses streamable HTTP. In the second, it takes a local stdio server and exposes it over SSE or streamable HTTP so remote clients can reach it.
In server mode it can host several stdio servers at once as named servers: `--named-server NAME 'uvx mcp-server-fetch'` or a JSON file in the familiar `mcpServers` format, each served under `/servers/NAME/`, with a `/status` endpoint for global status. Install with `uv tool install mcp-proxy` or pipx from PyPI, from the GitHub repository for the latest version, or as a container image (ghcr.io/sparfenyuk/mcp-proxy), and the README includes a Docker Compose setup and a section on extending the container image. A troubleshooting note says to use the full path to the binary if Claude Desktop fails to start it.
