tabularis
Tabularis is an open-source database client for PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB, and SQLite, with SQL notebooks, visual EXPLAIN, AI and an MCP server built in, and plugins for everything else. It installs with winget, Homebrew or Snap (or an AppImage and the AUR), and the UI is available in eight languages.
The README compares it with DBeaver CE, TablePlus and Beekeeper Studio and is candid about the trade-off: it supports three databases out of the box (more through plugins), against 100+ for DBeaver, and says to use DBeaver if you need dozens of drivers. Its distinguishing features are SQL notebooks (SQL and Markdown cells, cross-cell variables, charts), a built-in MCP server for AI agents, plugins in any language over JSON-RPC on stdio, AI text-to-SQL with local models through Ollama, and visual EXPLAIN with interactive plan graphs. Other features include SSH tunnelling, keychain password storage, an ER diagram, a Monaco-based SQL editor with multi-statement execution, SQL dump and import. The comparison is dated June 2026. It is Apache-2.0 licensed.
