DBX is a lightweight cross-platform database client that claims 70+ databases in a roughly 20 MB download. It ships as a single small binary with no Java runtime, Python virtualenv or bundled Chromium, and is available as a native app for macOS, Windows and Linux, a Docker image for team access and a web version. The README contrasts it with DBeaver, which needs Java, and TablePlus, which is macOS-only.

It supports a very wide list of databases, from MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Redis, MongoDB and ClickHouse to vector stores such as Qdrant, Milvus and Weaviate and several Chinese databases. Features include a CodeMirror 6 query editor with autocomplete and history, a virtual-scrolled data grid, schema tools, and an AI SQL assistant that works with Claude, OpenAI, Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint and runs generated SQL through built-in safety checks. A separate Rust MCP server, installed with `npx @dbx-app/mcp-server`, lets Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf and other agents query databases through the connections you already set up, with a connection allowlist and Read only, Data read/write and Full access modes.

Trade-offs

!Letting an AI agent query databases carries risk, so use the read-only mode and the connection allowlist for anything important.
!The MCP server is a separate package from the desktop app and has to be installed and configured on its own.
!A 70+ database claim means depth of support will vary by database, so check yours before relying on it.
