eigent
Eigent is an open-source desktop application that positions itself as a local, free alternative to Claude Cowork and Codex. It is built on CAMEL-AI's multi-agent project and lets you run either a single focused agent or a workforce of specialized agents that divide work, run in parallel and execute multi-step workflows together.
The emphasis is local and private. A recommended local deployment runs a backend and local models (vLLM, Ollama, LM Studio) with complete isolation from cloud services, while a quick cloud-connected mode (npm install, npm run dev) exists for a fast preview. It adds MCP integration, skills, built-in browser and terminal toolkits, scheduled automation and enterprise features such as SSO and access control.
Documented use cases lean toward building small browser games, generating monthly dev reports from GitHub with a local model, and organizing desktop files. Because it is a full desktop app with frontend and Python backend, setup involves Node (18-22), npm and uv. License is Apache-2.0, and a managed cloud version is offered for teams who prefer not to self-host.
