Hive is an open-source runtime for running many agents on business work. You hand a task to a long-lived queen agent with a role and memory; she does the first unit herself to learn the method, saves it as a reusable skill, then fans the rest out to parallel worker clones. Every worker writes one row into a shared SQLite tracker, so the queen checks progress with SQL and can resume where it stopped.

There is one execution primitive, the agent loop, and orchestration is a tool call (run_worker, run_playbook) rather than a compiled graph. Four workers run at a time by default, each under a hard tool-call budget. The tracker on disk, not a context window, keeps count of what is done, and re-running a playbook picks up the rows that still need work, with retries, backoff and a dead-letter list.

It ships thirteen persona queens, markdown memory benchmarked on LongMemEval, in-process tools (shell, files, search, scraping, charts), a browser bridge for your own Chrome, Agent Skills support and any MCP server via hive mcp add. State is saved to disk so agents resume after a crash, and it runs on most providers through LiteLLM, including local Ollama.

This write-up is based on the project's README and public repository data. We have not hand-tested the tool. Data as of 2026-10-20.

Features

01Queen and worker model: orchestration is a tool call (run_worker, run_playbook) rather than a predefined graph
02Shared SQLite tracker per colony, so progress can be queried, audited and resumed
03Persistent markdown memory benchmarked on LongMemEval
04Built-in shell, file, search, scraping and chart tools plus any MCP server via hive mcp add
05Cron, interval and webhook triggers, with Sentinel escalation to Telegram or Slack
02

Why choose it

+State lives in a shared SQLite tracker on disk, so long batch jobs are queryable, auditable and resumable after a crash.
+Orchestration is just tool calls, not a predefined graph, so the queen shapes the colony as the work unfolds.
+The queen pilots one unit herself before fanning out, catching a bad method before it runs across every row.

Trade-offs

!Opinionated persona/queen model may feel heavy if you just want a simple single agent.
!Needs Python 3.11+, Node 20+ and a real model budget; parallel workers can burn tokens fast.
!The memory benchmark itself notes that reading a whole short history still beats its memory when it fits.

Use cases

↳Research or data-collection jobs made of many similar units, such as checking dozens of companies
↳Growth, RevOps, lead generation and content tasks handled by persona agents
↳Long-running batch work that must survive crashes and pick up where it stopped
