telegram-mcp
telegram-mcp connects an MCP client to a Telegram user account through Telethon. It exposes more than 80 tools across accounts, chats and groups, messages, contacts, media, folders and admin operations, so an assistant can read and summarize chats, search history, manage groups and send or edit messages.
Setup needs Telegram API credentials from my.telegram.org and a session string, which the repository's generator script creates by phone or QR code. The server can run from a clone with uv or in Docker, and supports several accounts, proxies and a device identity setting.
Several features limit what an agent can do by mistake: a chat allowlist, file path restrictions, an expected-account check, and contact aliases where only an exact saved name sends a message while similar names only produce a suggestion. The project also ships workflow guides, such as drafting replies without sending them.
