Director
Director is a framework for building video agents that reason through tasks such as search, editing, compilation and generation, and stream the results. The README describes it as ChatGPT for videos: a command like "Upload this video and send the highlights to my Slack" is broken down and handed to the right agents.
It ships more than 20 pre-built agents that you can customise, covering summarising videos, generating a full video with voiceover from a script, searching and indexing a media library, clipping, dubbing, translation and subtitles. The interface is a chat with built-in video playback, and you can connect other LLMs and generative AI APIs and add your own agents and tools.
Director is built on VideoDB's video-as-data infrastructure for storage, indexing and streaming, and a hosted version is offered. To run it yourself, clone the repository, run `./setup.sh` (which installs Node.js 22.8.0 via nvm and Python environments) and add your API keys to the `.env` files; Mac, Linux and Windows through WSL are supported. GitHub does not detect a licence, and our data shows the last push on 2026-01-23.
