obsidian-mcp-connector
MCP Connector for Obsidian lets AI applications such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Cline, Continue, Windsurf and VS Code work with an Obsidian vault through the Model Context Protocol. Since version 0.4.0 the plugin hosts the MCP server in-process inside Obsidian and exposes Streamable HTTP on 127.0.0.1:27200. The README stresses that no native binary is shipped from the repository, which removes the supply-chain risk of downloading and running a platform-specific executable.
HTTP-native clients connect directly, while Claude Desktop, which only speaks stdio, goes through the official npx mcp-remote bridge using a two-line config the plugin generates. The tools cover reading, writing and patching notes with typed tools, periodic notes, graph navigation, plain-text search and Dataview queries. Semantic search runs on-device with Transformers.js, defaulting to the roughly 25 MB all-MiniLM-L6-v2 model, with Gemma 300M, Multilingual-E5-Base and Smart Connections as alternatives. The Local REST API plugin is optional and only needed for the search_vault tool.
