butterbase
Butterbase is an open-source backend-as-a-service designed so that AI coding agents can provision and operate it. Every app gets its own Postgres database with a declarative schema, migrations, row-level security and auto-generated REST endpoints. Around that sit the usual building blocks: email and OAuth auth, S3 or R2 backed file storage, a key-value store, TypeScript serverless functions on Deno, Durable Objects, WebSocket realtime subscriptions and outbound webhooks.
The AI-specific layer is what distinguishes it from a generic Supabase-style stack. It includes an AI gateway for chat and embeddings, managed RAG collections with ingestion and semantic search, and declarative multi-step agent workflows with checkpointed runs and human-approval pauses. Every capability is also exposed as MCP tools over HTTP or stdio, and a Claude Code plugin adds guided skills that walk from idea through schema, auth and functions to deploy.
