terravision

Active·★ 1.7k·AGPL-3.0·Updated 2026-10-19

TerraVision turns Terraform code, or a plain JSON graph of Terraform resource names, into cloud architecture diagrams using the official AWS, Google Cloud and Azure icon sets. The README argues that diagrams stay in sync with your infrastructure, unlike hand-maintained Visio or draw.io files, and that it draws what a cloud architect would draw, with VPCs, subnets, resource groups and regions nested correctly, rather than the plain boxes and arrows of Mermaid or PlantUML.

It runs on your machine and needs no cloud credentials, so your code stays local. Output formats are PNG, SVG, PDF, interactive HTML (clickable nodes, pan and zoom, search) and an editable draw.io file. Provider coverage listed is AWS 385 resource types, Google Cloud 264 and Azure 245. It is Terragrunt compatible, can run in CI on every merge, and has optional AI annotations (labels, titles, flow sequences) from local Ollama or AWS Bedrock.

For agents there is an MCP server and an agent skill: you describe the architecture as a JSON graph (each key is a resource name, each value what it connects to or contains) and render it with `terravision draw --source architecture.tvg.json --format svg`. Install with `pipx install terravision` or `uv tool install terravision`. The license is AGPL-3.0 and the last push was 2026-10-06. This review is based on the README and repository data; we have not run it ourselves.

This write-up is based on the project's README and public repository data. We have not hand-tested the tool. Data as of 2026-10-20.

01

Features

01Automatically generate diagrams from Terraform or JSON input.
02Utilizes official AWS, Azure, and GCP icons for professional-grade diagrams.
03Ensures diagrams are always up-to-date with infrastructure code.
04Runs entirely client-side, requiring no cloud credentials.
05Supports interactive HTML output and editable draw.io export.
02

Why choose it

+Diagrams come from Terraform code or a short JSON graph, so they can be regenerated on every change
+Official AWS, Google Cloud and Azure icons with nested VPCs, subnets and resource groups
+Runs locally with no cloud credentials; outputs PNG, SVG, PDF, interactive HTML and editable draw.io
+MCP server and agent skill let agents draw from a JSON graph; Terragrunt compatible; CI friendly
03

Trade-offs

!AGPL-3.0 licensing; check it fits your use before embedding it in a service
!Terraform-centric: infrastructure not described in Terraform needs a hand-written JSON graph
!Optional AI annotations need Ollama or AWS Bedrock; the coverage numbers are the README's own
!Last push was 2026-10-06
