5ire (pronounced "fai-er") is a sleek desktop AI assistant and MCP client that works with many providers: OpenAI, Azure, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, Doubao, Grok, DeepSeek and Ollama. Its tools feature connects MCP servers so the assistant can access the file system, system information, databases and remote data instead of only chatting. The authors also run an open marketplace of MCP servers and a one-click server installation integration for websites.

Other features in the README are a local knowledge base using the bge-m3 multilingual embedding model, which parses and vectorises docx, xlsx, pptx, pdf, txt and csv documents, usage analytics that track API use and spending, a prompts library with variables, bookmarks that survive deletion of the original messages, and keyword search across all conversations. To use tools you need Python, Node.js and uv installed, because they form the runtime for MCP servers; this step can be skipped until you need tools. The README notes the app uses native dependencies, so it must be packaged on each platform, and GitHub shows the licence as NOASSERTION.
