Comet is a React and TypeScript component library built on the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS), the design system used for U.S. federal government sites. It started as a USWDS implementation and has grown into a set of packages aimed at government and enterprise web apps that need accessible, standards-based UI.

The repository is a monorepo of separately published npm packages: comet-uswds for the standard USWDS components, comet-extras for components USWDS does not provide, comet-data-viz for charts built on Victory.js with USWDS styling, and comet-mcp, a Model Context Protocol server meant to help AI assistants work with Comet projects. A starter app repository is offered as the quickest way in, with USWDS setup, example pages, testing and linting preconfigured.

This write-up is based on the project's README and public repository data. We have not hand-tested the tool. Data as of 2026-10-17.

!It is a front-end UI library, not an AI agent; the MCP package is a small add-on rather than the main product.
!The look and behaviour follow USWDS, so it suits government-style interfaces more than highly custom branding.
!The project is small (a few dozen GitHub stars), so community answers and third-party examples are limited.
