brain.md is a local-first markdown editor and knowledge base designed to serve as a 'second brain' for both humans and AI agents. It integrates built-in semantic search (RAG) using local WASM ONNX embeddings or external LLM APIs, and provides a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for seamless interaction with AI clients, all while keeping data in plain .md files.

Features

01Obsidian-compatible Markdown: Supports wikilinks, embeds, callouts, math, mermaid, tasks, frontmatter, and aliases; directly opens existing Obsidian vaults.
02Built-in Semantic Search (RAG): Features a per-vault embedded vector store (pure JS), with notes chunked, embedded, and indexed on every save. Supports pluggable embedders (local WASM ONNX, Ollama, OpenAI, etc.).
03MCP Server (Streamable HTTP): Mounts 17 tools and 2 resources on the same port, enabling AI agents like Claude Desktop to read, search, query, and write notes with per-folder permissions.
04Local-first & No Vendor Lock-in: Vaults are plain .md file folders, accessible by any editor, ensuring data ownership and full offline functionality, including embeddings.
05Git Autocommit & History: Automatically commits every save to Git, providing full version history, diffs, one-click restore, and manual checkpoints.
